School lifters bag four national medals

A six-member Odisha squad bagged one silver and four bronze medals in the 60th Schools National Weightlifting Championship, held at Rangareddy in Telangana from January 10 to 14. Among the Odisha lifters, Sitamani Hembram captured the silver in under-17 girls` 63kg category with efforts of 50kg in snath, 60kg in clean and jerk for a total of 110kg.

The four bronze medals were secured by Pinki Naik, Archana Pradhan, Moti Jani and Jhuni Mandal. Competing in under-17 girls` 48kg category, Pinki lifted 44kg in snatch and 60kg in clean and jerk for a total of 104kg.

Archana finished third in under-19 girls 48kg category, lifting 48kg in snatch and 60kg in clean and jerk for a total of 108kg. Jhuni won the bronze in under-17 girls` 58kg category with a total lift of 114kg. Moti lifted a total of 114kg in u-17 gilrs 53kg class. The squad was accompanied by coaches Purna Chandra Behera, Rashmita Kumari Naik and manager Purusottam Muduli.
